Reasons behind Fuel Restriction

VIVAnews – The government claimed the subsidized fuel restriction is included in the strategy of alleviating the nation's dependence over oil commodity.

According to Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Hatta Rajasa, the restriction of subsidized fuel is part of the government’s plan and is regulated in the State’s Law.

“We have the roadmap to scale down our dependence on fuel.  It will be diversified to gas fuel, of which amount is huge,” said Hatta in Jakarta today.

Hatta warned that to reduce fuel import, it should be carried out in phases while at the same time providing options to the people. Pertamax and gas are opted in.

Hatta also revealed that there is an option to raise fuel prices as suggested by Commission VII of the House of Representatives.

“I will not consider (price increase), but the option is there (from Commission VII). However, it is not included in the regulations yet. So, we will see what's going on.  It doesn’t mean that the government considers increase of fuel prices,” he said.
