VIVAnews – The Human Rights National Commission (Komnas HAM) was urged to announce the pro-justisia investigation report of the tragedy  of 1965/1966 turmoil. The delay in announcing the report has showed that the commission is not serious in looking into this major human rights violation.

“The prolonged completion of the investigation report is not only toying with the law but also with the minds of the age-stricken victims,” said a human rights activist, Suciwati, in a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, Jan 17.

She said that the 1965/1966 incident was a tragedy of humanity. The incident caused many violent and brutal acts such as murder, torture, rape and other discriminative acts.  “A number of sources said that thousand to millions of people became victims of the incident,” said Suciwati.

The Human Rights National Commission said that it has conducted an investigation towards 357 victims from various areas. However, the commission has not submitted any investigation reports regarding the incident since May 2008.

The commission has postponed to legitimate and to announce the investigation report twice last year on June 5-6 and August 9-10. “They reasoned that the investigation files were still incomplete, so they couldn’t make the decision,” Suciwati said.

The Human Rights National Commission held a plenary session on January 9-13 to discuss about the incident. “However, there’s no information about the report yet,” she said.

Therefore, a number of elements consisting of the Human Rights Violation Victims of 1965/1966 Incident, LPR Krob, YKPK 65, Ikapri, KontraS, Ikohi, LBH Jakarta, and ICTJ urged the Human Rights National Commission to announce the pro justisia investigation report soon.  “By declaring that the 1965/1966 incident was a major human rights violation,” she said.
